What is a Hydraulic Workover (or Snubbing) Unit?
HWUs are versatile systems used for a variety well intervention and drilling operations. They are commonly used in tasks such as well repairs, completions and plug and abandonment operations.
Importantly, HWUs do not require a full drilling rig, operating under their own power without the need for a derrick. This makes them particularly effective in environments where it is not feasible to deploy a full drilling rig.
HWUs are also designed to handle intervention works in live wellbores, making them particularly valuable in more mature fields to enhance production or extend well life through workovers and recompletions.
Because they can perform under high pressure conditions, HWUs can assist in minimising the downtime and maximising the output of your well. Often, this can prove vital in the overall performance of operations.
Our Hydraulic Workover Equipment
At Clear Cut Interventions, we design and build our hydraulic workover units in Western Australia, deploying them on fields across the state. They are engineered to the highest standards (API 4F) and are capable of handling up to 200 tonnes. Our equipment features:
Integrated pumping and rotary systems, allowing for versatility in operations.
Tubing pick up and lay down capabilities that enhance speed and safety.
Remote control operations that reduce personnel exposure to hazardous conditions.
Our units are all designed for durability and reliability, able to withstand extreme conditions (including Category 3 cyclones) to ensure uninterrupted operation during critical well intervention tasks.
Recognising the requirements of deploying a hydraulic workover unit offshore, CCI units feature enhanced stability mechanisms suited to platform-based works and can withstand corrosive marine environments. Compact, versatile and modular, their ease of transport makes them suited to space-constrained offshore platforms.
See Our Success Deploying a Hydraulic Workover and Snubbing Unit
We deployed a hydraulic snubbing unit at the Cliff Head Platform in Offshore Western Australia, where the previous methodologies had led to numerous Major Accident Events (MAEs) and high operating costs.
CCI introduced a locally sourced HWU to replace the existing coiled tubing method. This service significantly reduced MAEs and cut operational costs by decreasing workover time and improving rig capabilities, enhancing overall operational efficiency and reducing expenses.
Comprehensive Hydraulic Workover Unit Solutions with Clear Cut Interventions
For close to a decade, CCI has built and designed HWUs for clients across Western Australia. With advanced technologies and robust systems, we are able to safely and efficiently service even the most difficult and constrained offshore sites.
